2024 Info Post

Eat, Drink, and Make Merry is a low-commitment multifandom exchange celebrating food and drink.

Food and/or drink must be one of the work's main themes. However, we take a broad approach and would encourage participants to get creative. If you're into your faves bringing the object of their affections soup, burning salad, plotting revolution over a roast, having a romantic cannibal dinner for two, or even ingesting their interesting finds from a dumpster dive, this is the exchange for you!

Matching is OR: one fandom, relationship tag, medium (fic or art), and one of three genres: sweet, sour, or spicy.

All participants must be 18+.

The schedule for 2024 is as follows:
Nominations open: September 12
Nominations close: September 22
Signups open: September 24
Signups close: October 5
Assignments out by: October 7
Assignments due: November 16
Works revealed: November 23
Creators revealed: November 30
All times are 8:59pm PDT/PST.

Om-Nom-Nominations.

Please disambiguate all nominations. This means putting the fandom in parentheses after the relationship e.g. Harold Finch/John Reese (Person of Interest).

You may nominate 1-10 relationships or solo characters in 1-10 fandoms. Please nominate solo characters as 1: Character; Gen relationships as Character A & Character B; and romantic ships as Character A/Character B. Please avoid nominating under "All Media Types."

We accept specific group nominations, e.g. Hatake Kakashi & Team Seven or Lelith Hesperax/Cult of Strife Bloodbrides. If you request group nominations, any two or more members of that group will be considered to fulfill that request.

We accept original characters within fandoms, e.g. Original Ape Character (Planet of the Apes), Original Male Character/Leia Organa (Star Wars). If you do not state a gender, creators may create character(s) of any gender for that tag.

Please nominate Original Works under “Original Work” and be as specific as you’d like with the characters. Please state any relevant genders in the tag, e.g. Ice Cream Salesman/His Favorite Female Customer, or Original Male Character & Sentient Candy Bar.

RPF is allowed. All nominated RPF characters must be 18+ and famous in their own right (non-famous friends or family are not allowed). Real-life fascists, nazis, current political figures, and 20th-21st century persons famous as perpetrators or victims of violent crime will be rejected.

Crossovers are allowed. Please nominate those under "Crossover Fandom" and disambiguate accordingly, indicating the fandom of each character within the relationship.

For complex or interconnected fandoms (Star Wars, Marvel, DCU, etc.), nominate the fandom in the format that makes sense for you; e.g., if you're only interested in characters and situations from the Captain America movies, nominate "Captain America (Movies)" as your fandom. If you want to draw on the greater cast and timeline of the whole MCU, nominate "Marvel Cinematic Universe" as your fandom. Overlapping nominations (e.g., both "Bucky Barnes/Steve Rogers (Captain America Movies)" and "Bucky Barnes/Steve Rogers (MCU)" are okay.

If any nominations require more clarification, queries will be posted to the comm during the nomination period.

Sign Ups.

You must make at least 1 and up to 10 requests and offers, each featuring 1-20 relationships or solo characters. You may request a fandom more than once with different relationships and/or genre combinations, You may request and offer fic, art or both. You may request only 1 fandom; however, if you request fewer than 3 fandoms with distinct lore and go to pinch hit, the exchange will not be delayed to find a pinch hit for you. (You may contact the mods to add more fandoms to your signup in this case if you wish.)

If you are not matchable as a creator at the end of the signup period, a mod will contact you via the e-mail address associated with your AO3 account and ask you to add offers. You will be given 24 hours to do so; if you cannot or do not wish to add more offers, your signup will be deleted.

Please do not sign up for this exchange with more than one account.

In addition to ships and/or characters, this exchange matches on three "genres":

- Sweet (for works that tend towards fluff)

- Sour (works that are darker or more on the angsty side)

- Spicy (sex/kink-focused works).*

*Kinks do not have to be directly food focused, but a pwp piece with one line about a sandwich a character had at lunch would not be in the spirit of the exchange.

For requests that are more gen/worldbuilding-focused or generally don't fit these categories, please choose the genre(s) you feel are most relevant to your canon. The genres are mostly there to guide the tone of your gift and do not confine your creator to fluff, angst or kink.

When signing up, please put any DNWs (Do Not Wants) in the Optional Details box, otherwise they will not be enforced. DNWs are something that would ruin a gift for you. They should be specific and nonjudgmental, and should not be used to railroad your creator into creating a specific scenario, e.g. "DNW anything but Soulmate AU."

Assignments.

You are signing up to create one work. It must fulfill one of your recipient's requests, including the fandom, a medium, a relationship, and a genre (sweet/sour/spicy) specified in that request. It must respect any DNWs your recipient may have included in their Optional Details box.

Generative AI is not allowed for any works in the collection. All work must be created wholly by you.

Minimums:
Fanfic: Minimum word count is 500 words. This must be a completed standalone work and not a placeholder/incomplete work.
Fanart: A polished sketch on unlined paper.

No extensions will be given. If you are not able to fulfill your assignment for any reason, please default as soon as possible so that a pinch hit may be arranged. There is no penalty for defaulting, but bear in mind that if you default and your creator also defaults on you, you will not be guaranteed a gift.

Pinch Hits.

Will be posted to the Dreamwidth community.

Treats.

Treats (works outside of your assignment) are allowed and encouraged! We would love for everybody to receive hardy little food hampers come reveals. You do not have to be signed up to the challenge to treat. Fanfic treats do not have to meet the minimum word count; however, any art work submitted as a treat should still be on unlined paper. All treats must still respect a recipient's DNWs.
