Eat, Drink, and Make Merry is a low-commitment multifandom exchange celebrating food and drink.

Food and/or drink must be one of the work's main themes. However, we take a broad approach and would encourage participants to get creative. If you're into your faves bringing the object of their affections soup, burning salad, plotting revolution over a roast, being hungry in a drive-thru line for McDonald's, or even ingesting their interesting finds from a dumpster dive, this is the exchange for you!

Matching is OR: one fandom, relationship tag, medium (fic or art), and one of three genres: sweet, sour, or spicy. (For the purposes of this exchange, the genres will be listed on the signup form as Characters).

The schedule for 2020 is as follows:

Nominations: 26 May to 2 June
Signups: 5 June to 12 June

You may nominate 1-10 relationships or solo characters in 1-10 fandoms. Please nominate solo characters as Character & None; Gen relationships as Character A & Character B; and romantic ships as Character A/Character B. Please disambiguate all nominations. This means putting the fandom in brackets at the end. E.g. Harold Finch/John Reese (Person of Interest). Please avoid nominating under "All Media Types."

We accept specific group nominations, e.g. Harry Potter & Weasley Family, or Harry Potter/Quidditch Team Members. The following group types are too vague and will not be accepted, even if canonical to your fandom: Character & Any, Character & Other(s), Character & Everyone.

We accept original characters within fandoms, e.g. Original Ape Character (Planet of the Apes), Original Male Character/Hermione Granger (Harry Potter). If you do not state a gender, it is assumed that you have no preference regarding the gender ultimately assigned to this character(s).

We accept readerfic nominations. For consistency and added clarity, please nominate the reader character as “Reader” instead of “You”.

There are no rarity restrictions, and Original Works is allowed. Please nom OW under “Original Work” and be as specific as you’d like. Please state any relevant genders in the tag, e.g. Ice Cream Salesman/His Favorite Female Customer, or Original Male Character & Sentient Candy Bar.

RPF is allowed. However, all nominated characters must be 18+, and works must not include their non-famous friends or family. The mods reserve the right to reject RPF nominations at their discretion.

For MCU, DCEU, and Arrowverse, please nominate films/series separately (for example: Black Panther, Captain Marvel, etc.)

For DC Comics and Marvel Comics, please nominate all main-continuity characters under the umbrella title (for example DC Comics), and all titles that take place outside of main continuity under their respective titles (for example: Bombshells, Arkham Knight). For alternate versions of characters that happen within the main continuity/storyline, nominate them with an informative designation under the main DC Comics/Marvel Comics tag (for example: HYDRA!Steve Rogers).

Crossovers are allowed. Please nominate those under "Crossover Fandom" and disambiguate accordingly, indicating the fandom of each character within the relationship.

If any nominations require more clarification, queries will be posted here during the nomination period.

Signups:

You must request 1-10 relationships or solo characters in 3-10 different fandoms, and offer 1-10 relationships or solo characters in 4-10 unique fandoms. You may request a fandom more than once with different relationship and/or genre combinations, but overall your signup must have at least 3 unique fandoms. You may request and offer fic, art or both. Make sure you don't accidentally tick the wrong box.

If you are not matchable as a creator at the end of the signup period, a mod will contact you via the e-mail address associated with your AO3 account and ask you to add offers. You will be given 24h to do so.

You may sign up to this exchange with multiple accounts. Each account is subject to the same rules and expectations about honoring assignments and you are expected to manage your own offers and requests. It is up to you to make sure you don’t match to yourself, that is, unless you want to.

A note on genres: For organizational purposes, participants will also be matched on one of three genres:

- Sweet (for works that tend towards fluff)
- Sour (works that are darker or more on the angsty side)
- Spicy (kink-focused works)*

*Kinks do not have to be directly food focused, but a PWP piece with one line about a sandwich a character had for lunch would not be in the spirit of the exchange.

For requests that are more gen/worldbuilding-focused or generally don't fit these categories, please choose the genre(s) you feel are most relevant to your canon. The genres are mostly there to guide the tone of your gift and won't necessarily confine your creator to fluff, angst or kink.

When signing up, please put any DNWs (Do Not Wants) in the Optional Details box, otherwise they will not be enforced. DNWs are something that would ruin a gift for you, and should not be used to railroad your creator into creating a specific scenario, e.g. anything but Soulmate AU.

If you'd like to provide a Dear Creator Letter for this exchange, you're more than welcome to do so! There will be a space to link to them in the Signup Form.

Assignment Requirements:

You are signing up to create one work. It must fulfill one of your recipient's requests, including the fandom, a medium, a relationship, and a genre (sweet/sour/spicy) specified in that request. It must respect any DNWs your recipient may have included in their Optional Details box.

Fanfic: Minimum word count is 500 words. This must be a completed standalone work and not a placeholder/incomplete work.
Fanart: A polished sketch on unlined paper.

No extensions will be given. If you are not able to fulfill your assignment for any reason, please default as soon as possible so that a pinch hit may be arranged. There is no penalty for defaulting, but bear in mind that if you default and your creator also defaults on you, you will not be guaranteed a gift.

Pinch Hits:

PHs as they come up will be posted to the comm. Please keep an eye out. If you are not able to fulfill your assignment for any reason, please default as soon as possible so that a pinch hit may be arranged. There is no penalty for defaulting, but bear in mind that if you default and your creator also defaults on you, you will not be guaranteed a gift.

Miscellaneous:

Treats (extra works outside of an assignment) are allowed and encouraged! We would love for everybody to receive hardy little food hampers come reveals. You do not have to be signed up to the challenge to treat. Fanfic treats do not have to meet the minimum word count; however, any art work submitted as a treat should still be on unlined paper and respect the recipient's DNWs.
